Abstract

The primary function of kidney’s is to maintaining the haemostasis in body. When kidney cannot remove the metabolic water or perform their regulatory functions it results renal failure. One type of treatment of renal failure is dialysis it reflects many of kidney’s functions. More than half of the dialysis patients are now using Arteriovenous Fistula AVF. Arteriovenous fistula AVF is a type of access used for hemodialysis. AVF is vessel that is formed by joining a vein two an artery in arm. Taking care of fistula through strengthening, exercises, cleanliness etc. are most important for dialysis patient. The patient in the course of treatment is explained regarding the AV fistula but some how does not get the complete information or rather finds it difficult to comprehend the care protocol provided.It has been experienced during the clinical practice and experience that patients lack information and in turn knowledge regarding the care of arteriovenous fistula. The present study was aimed to assess the knowledge regarding arteriovenous fistula and its care among dialysis patient and to find an association with the demographic variables.
