Autonomous Robot For Health Data Acquisition For An Hospitalized Patients
Abstract
The current focus on quality monitoring instruments imposes a high data registration workload on nurses for a hospitalized patient in the hospital. The focus of our research in this field was to investigate whether a socialized robot in the hospital is able to take over some of this data collection by administering questionnaires. We performed an exploratory design experiment on the internal medicine ward of a hospital. 35 patients from the hospital (mean age 64.1±17.7, 20 females) participated in this study. We used the social robots Pepper in the hospital to conduct five questionnaires on medical past, defecation, pain, memory and sleep. Patients and nurses in the hospital found this robot reasonably acceptable in this role. Further research in this field in the future is necessary to address concerns and optimize the nurse robot task division.
