Significance of Bruhana Snehapana in the management of Childhood Malnutrition: A Critical Appraisal

Abstract

Lipid is an essential component of each structural and functional unit of the human body. So, it is considered very crucial for the maintenance of health. This concept of importance of Lipid in human life was already luminously utilized by our ancient Acharya in the clinical field using Snehana(Unction) therapy in the form of Bruhana Snehapana. As nutrition is the essential need of pediatric population for the growth of the body & maintenance of health. Now a days, common diseases originated from the malnutrition as a result of faulty lifestyle approaching to kaumarbhutya OPD demands to prove the rationality of use of Bruhana Snehapana in various disorders having multiple treatment challenges in the contemporary science.Aim & objectives: Novel attempt has been made through this paper to clear up the doctrine in use of Bruhana Snehapana in Paediatric disorders W.S.R. Malnutrition Material & methods: Various literature is searched from Ayurvedic treatise, textbooks of Panchakarma, numerous  articles from scientific   research databases. Result & observations: All related information compiled from different sources is narrated under different heads such as importance   of Bruhana   Snehapana, its mode of action, useful drugs, utility it in Pediatric disorders induced by Malnutrition   & clinical evidences regarding its effects.  Conclusion: The review of Bruhana Snehapana based on classical references & contemporary observations done by this study may help to reconcile its advantages in clinical practice of Pediatric disorders induced by Malnutrition.
