Abstract

Background: A pathological fear of driving is known as a driving phobia. It's also known as vehophobia or amaxophobia. Amaxophobia is a pathological and self-defeating fear of being in traffic (vehicular transportation) that interferes with the patient's lifestyle and quality of life,  the phobia for driving also describe features consistent with various other anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobia, and social phobia.

Aim: To Study the prevalence of amaxophobia among dental students.

Methods: The study consists of an online survey comprising self prepared questionnaires. The data collected are then tabulated and studied, with proper results the management of amaxophobia is well discussed. The study also focuses on the prevalence, comparison between genders, age, symptoms, causes and their treatment and management. Data was then entered into SPSS [statistical package for social sciences] software version 23 and the statistical test used is chi-square test. Results were plotted in bar graphs and pie charts for correlation and descriptive analysis respectively.

Results: About 44% of the study population had some fear in driving and nearly to the same extent had a fear in being a passenger in any vehicle.

Conclusion: The study thus concludes that both males and females have similar fear percentages related to driving. It also concludes that DRF(driving related fear) is also seen in case of non-MVA (motor vehicle accident) population.
