KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF ANGINOPHOBIA AMONG UNDERGRADUATE DENTAL STUDENTS IN CHENNAI- A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

Abstract

Introduction: A phobia is an anxiety disorder which causes a person to feel extreme and irrational anxiety in a particular situation. Anginophobia is the fear of angina or related choking and narrowing of the throat which leads a person to an uneasy and uncomfortable situation.

Aim: To analyse the knowledge and awareness about anginophobia among dental students.

Materials and method:  A survey was conducted among dental students through an online platform creating google forms with verified questionnaires. The responses collected from 100 respondents were then formulated into excel sheets and after coding were transferred to SPSS software version 23 using descriptive analysis and chi square test.

Results: Results showed that 88.9% are aware about anginophobia among the dental students. Most of the respondents were from 2nd year and were about 38.54%.  Results show that fear is more among 3rd year students.The fear is about 29.29% in 3rd year students which is all psychological. Least fear is among 1st year and no one among 1st year has this phobia. (chi square test value:5.101 , DF:3 , p value: 0.165(>0.05)indicating statistically not significant results.

Conclusion: Many respondents are anginophobic and most of them are aware about the fear of having angina and choking. They also avoid many things just because of this fear.
