KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF ARACHNOPHOBIA AMONG UNDERGRADUATE DENTAL STUDENTS IN CHENNAI - A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

Abstract

Introduction: A fear is a sort of nervousness issue characterized by an exorbitant dread of circumstances. Arachnophobia is the fear of arachnids, mainly spiders. It is one of the most common specific phobias and not everyone who dislikes spiders is experiencing a phobia. Arachnophobia affects 6.1% - 33.5% of the global population.

Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the awareness and prevalence of dental students who are arachnophobic.

Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey-based study was conducted among 120 study students. A questionnaire was prepared about arachnophobia among students. Data was collected and tabulated in excel and statistics was done in SPSS version 23.

Results: 77.2% of the population knew what Arachnophobia is about, while 22.8% were unaware of Arachnophobia. One good way of treating arachnophobia is by confronting it with friends and family.

Conclusion: We can conclude that most dental students are aware of Arachnophobia.
