Abstract

Background:  Risky alcohol consumption among young people is an important public health priority because of its consequences.  Many college students considered drinking to be a natural part of college experience, consuming alcohol including enhancing their mood and helping them to cope with stress.

Aim:  to evaluate the number of college students who consume alcohol. We examined the competing roles of personality and social influences in students-status differences.

Materials and method: The present study was a questionnaire-based observational cross-sectional type of study comprising 150 responses from college students. The statistical data was created and circulated through google form and the responses validity checking was done by consulting experts and data entered in google form, google sheets were analysed, tabulated, interpreted and compared. The chi-square test was done after the datas were entered in the SPSS software version 25 and the outcome was formed by the help of pie charts.

Results: The total number tested in this study was 150. Out of 150 participants, 74.67% subjects were females and 25.33% subjects were males. The consequences of consuming alcohol among college students were limited and most of the students haven’t consumed alcohol.

Conclusion: Educational and college authorities should/must take responsibility in relation to their students' drinking behavior and to commit themselves to supporting an environment of responsible drinking. The persistence of college drinking problems underscores an urgent need to implement preventions. The results suggest that alcohol control measures can be effective in reducing problematic drinking in college students.
