COPING STRATEGIES AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS IN NEWER EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT- A QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY

Abstract

Introduction: Stress has now been an ingrained part of our vocabulary and daily existence. However, the prime focus remains on what determines the power of a students to deal with stressors while other succumb to worry within the dental learning environment. Ultimately, the etiology of this pandemic stress in dental education requires evaluation for complexity and eradication within the near future. Apparently, the efficacy of the coping modality adopted depends on a person's perception of stress and his or her inherent desire for quality of life.

Materials and method: The survey was conducted through a questionnaire through google and distributed among the 1 st year dental students of Saveetha Dental college. Total of 100 responses were collected. First part of the questionnaire contains demographic details. Second part of the questionnaire consists of questions regarding Coping strategies among dental students in a newer educational environment.

Results: This survey represents the distribution based on having been stressed daily. Blue color denotes yes and Green color denotes no . Most of the study subjects responded as yes which is 92% and 8% of the study subjects responded as no.And it also represents the study subjects based on having your education environment causing stress. Blue color denotes yes and green color denotes no. Most of the subjects responded as yes which is 85% and 15% of the study subjects responded as no.

Conclusion: Dental students displayed a relatively high perceived stress score. Female and married women, compared with male, junior and single students, reported more stress. Changes in certain environmental factors and coping strategies independently affected the perceived stress core. Strategies for stress management must be incorporated into dental education to ensure the output of effective dentists.
