Abstract

Introduction: Atychiphobia also known as fear of failure is an irrational and persistent fear of failing at something. This fear may paralyze individuals. They may stop trying things for fear that they will fail at them, leading to significant problems in their daily lives and numerous missed opportunities. The fear of failing at something exists on a continuum of severity.

Materials and Methods: A Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to analyze the awareness and prevalence of atychiphobia among students. In this study, undergraduate students of a private dental college are included. A self-administered questionnaire containing 15 questions about atychiphobia was distributed among 100 dental students. The responses were collected and subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS software version 23. Descriptive analysis was performed to calculate frequencies of various categories.

Results: 56.52% of the respondents were aware of Atychiphobia.74.78% of the respondents have fear of being failed. A higher number of females know what is atychiphobia .75.65% of the respondents have the fear of failing during exams.

Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study the following conclusions can be drawn. The dental students were moderately aware of atychiphobia. The overall study concluded that there is a high prevalence of atychiphobia among dental students.
