Abstract

A well-known surgical procedure for breast cancer has a considerable impact on patient’s physical, psychological and economical status. Exercises after surgery are known to have a good impact in preventing/ treating many of complications.

Methods: In a case series, all subjects who were satisfying inclusion criteria were given routine in-patient supervised physiotherapy protocol which included breathing exercises, exercises to improve range of motion and prevent/manage upper limb oedema. Outcome measures like Chest expansion and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were taken in the beginning of treatment and before discharge.

Results: Total of seven female subjects were recruited. Mean chest expansion at nipple level prior to physiotherapy management i.e. on the day of reference was 1.8 cm which increased to 2.9 cm on the day of discharge. Mean VAS on rest on the day of reference was 2.24 and on movement was 4.14 which improve on the day of discharge on rest 0.06 and 0.91 on movement.

Conclusion: chest physiotherapy and other physiotherapy techniques to limit pain proves effective.
