Epidemiological study of tinea cruris disease among patients attending the dermatological clinic in Karbala city.
Abstract
Background: Tinea cruris is a contagious skin fungal infection which mainly affects the groin area. It was caused by dermophytes and the most common causative agent T. rubrum. The disease was most common in hot climates and among subjects with obesity, diabetes mellites, and those are adolescent males. Aim and objectives: Epidemiological study of Tinea cruris disease, distribution of the disease according to demographic and other risk factors. Patients and methods: The data collection started from the period 1st -30th January 2021 from the dermatological clinic in Karbala city (Almoalemeen district). The sample was included 120 patients and 92 persons as a control. The patients were diagnosed clinically by the dermatologist in the clinic and the information regarding the patients and control subjects was collected according to a suitable questionnaire and by direct interview of the dermatologist with them. Results: Tinea cruris represented 16% off all visits to the dermatological clinic in Al-moalemeen district /Karbala. Tinea cruris was more prevalent among males (67.6%), age group more than 50 years(81.1%) ,obese (91.3%), diabetic(68.5%) and with positive family history(67.1%). Conclusions: Tinea cruris was more prevalent among the male gender, age over 50 years, patients with obesity, diabetes mellites, and those with positive family history
