Abstract

AIM

To assess the effectiveness of Pimecrolimus as one of the interventions for Oral Lichen Planus.

METHODOLOGY

A systematic review of controlled trials, clinical trials, and a pilot study was performed. Electronic and hand searches retrieved 2990 records.533 were screened.Nine studies were analyzed for the systematic review.Study included in the systematic review examined the intervention and outcomes.

RESULTS

Nine studies were included in this systematic review, which were randomized controlled trials and pilot studies. There were studies performed in different countries. Among the nine trials, five studies were found statistically significant, but further studies should be done to prove the effectiveness of Pimecrolimus for oral lichen planus . Five studies found that Pimecrolimus significantly improved clinical lesions and reduced the burning sensation in comparison to the control group, while four studies found that blanching of tissue was significantly improved in both groups.

CONCLUSION

There is a dearth of substantiation to show the efficacy of Pimecrolimus for oral lichen planus , Therefore, further Pilot studies and control trials should be done to assess the efficacy of Pimecrolimus for oral submucous fibrosis.
