“To Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Respectful Maternity Care among Staff Nurses in Selected Hospitals of Pune City”

Abstract

According to UN projects, the current delivery rate in India in 2020 is 17.592 per 1000. In India, 32,000 women die from preventable causes during childbirth every year. India has registered about 80% drop in maternal mortality over a 25-year span which is much above the global average of 44% at 122 deaths per 100,000 live births.  1.2 million Women from more than half of the world’s countries, what they wanted most was to be treated with respect and dignity from reproductive and maternal health services. Sustainable goal 3 focuses on improving the quality of maternity health services for more than 200 million pregnant women who are worthy to be treated with respect and dignity during labour and delivery. The current study is “toassess the knowledge and attitude regarding respectful maternity care among staff nurses in selected hospitals of Pune city”. The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge of staff nurses regarding respectful maternity care, to assess the attitude of staff nurses regarding respectful maternity care, to correlate knowledge & attitude of staff nurses regarding respectful maternity care and to associate between the demographic variables with knowledge and attitude regarding respectful maternity care among staff nurses. Material and Methods: In present study, researcher adopted Non-experimental Exploratory design. Study was carried out on 100 samples. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to select samples for staff nurses working in selected hospitals. Structured knowledge questionnaire and attitude likert scale were used. Institutional ethics committee approved the ethical clearance. Analysis of data was calculated by using descriptive and inferential statistics.Result: The study finding shows that 61% staff nurses were having average knowledge regarding respectful maternity care and 83% staff nurses were having highly favourable attitude regarding respectful maternity care.Conclusion: The researcher concluded that staff nurse had average level of knowledge and highly favourable attitude, knowledge and attitude having slightly negative correlation, there is no significant association between level of knowledge and attitude of staff nurses regarding respectful maternity care and demographic variable. Recommendation:The study can be replicated on large samples; practice of respectful maternity care among staff nurses in OBG unit can be conducted. This study can be carried out in community settings for various health care workers.
