A Study to assess the comparison of trust between Private and Public Medical Practitioners among the population of Vadodara
Abstract
Quality of care is a more tangible concept that includes some observed and measurable attributes such as availability of equipment and frequency of service provision. Quality of care is not defined by a relationship or existence of risk. On the other hand, trust is found in interactions where the trustee is vulnerable to the trusters’ uncertain actions. The present study was undertaken with an aim to evaluate the level of trust in public and private practitioners
Methodology: The Study population is people of Vadodara city from which the sample size of 384. The structured close ended questionnaire was designed with an aim to ascertain the similarities and differences among the general population pertaining to trust between private and public practitioners.
Results: The results show that for the type of physician they seek to avail second opinion is not associated with whether the physician is private or public practitioner while the respondents trust towards their doctors’ behavior and concern towards then is associated with the type of physician they seek care from. The respondents prefer private practitioners more than the government medical practitioners.
Conclusion: The mind set of people to seek treatment from private physicians is only because of the perception that they give them quality treatment, proper diagnostic facilities, proper medicinal consultation which helps them to entrust the service provider. The study concluded that the people of Vadodara trust private practitioners more because of the good doctor patient relation as compared to the government doctors.
