A comparison of antimicrobial efficacy of two intracanal medicaments in primary teeth in vivo study

Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of two intracanal medicaments which are calcium hydroxide and triple antibiotic paste in primary teeth.

Materials and Methods: A total of 30 single rooted primary maxillary anterior teeth were included in the study. They were divided into two groups. Group 1: calcium hydroxide. Group 2: triple antibiotic paste. After gaining the access opening first sample was collected by placing paper point into the canal and the second samples were collected after placing intracanal medicaments after 3 weeks.

Results: Statistically significant difference was found between sample 1 and sample 2 of both intracanal medicaments. There was no statistically significant difference was found between two materials.

Conclusion: Antimicrobial efficacy of calcium hydroxide and triple antibiotic paste was similar in primary teeth.
