Abstract

Background: Amlapitta is a disease included in Annahava Srotas, and in today's scenario, this is the most typical disease because of unhealthy diet & regimens. The term Amlapitta is covering two words, i.e., Amla and Pitta. The Ayurveda literature enlightens that Amlapitta is a disorder in which vitiated Pitta increases in quantity and instantaneously increases Pitta's sourness. Acharya Chakrapani has stated that “Amlapitta is Amla Guna Yukta Pitta." Such clinical conditions explained in Ayurveda can be correlated with gastritis/ Acid peptic disease in conventional medicine. Material and methods:  A 43 years old female patient was presented with the chief complaints, e.g., burning sensation in the chest region, sour belching, pain in abdomen before and after a meal, lack of appetite, pain in the back area, weakness, fever on & off, giddiness while hungry for five years. Vamana managed the case as a Pradhana Karma followed by Shaman Chikitsa (Maharasnadi Kwatha, Sutashekhara Rasa, Gandharva Haritaki, and    Kamdudha Rasa) for 15 days. Observation & Results: After the successful above-said intervention, the patient got significant relief in all her chief complaints. Discussion: Due to Pitta and Kapha aggravating Nidan Sevana, vitiation of Agni and Dosha Dushya Samurchhana takes place. This results in indigestion or incomplete digestion of food, leading to the formation of Ama dosha and Amlapitta. Therefore, Ampachaka, Kapha-Pitta Shodhak  & Vatanulomak Chikitsa was adopted in this patient. Conclusion: Vamana Karma followed by the above-said Shamana  Chikitsa in the Ayurveda plays a substantial role in the radical cure of Amlapitta.
