“An observational study for prevalence of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in different types of Prakruti in Wardha city”
Abstract
Background: Prakruti is the morphological, physiological, and psychological essential traits manifested in the intrauterine life and is said to be unchangeable throughout life. Noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is taxonomically adjacent to Madhumeha in Ayurveda; The present study is focused on observing the prevalence of NIDDM in different Prakruti. Aim: To observe the majority of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in different Prakruti in the population of Wardha city. Objectives: To compare Prakruti wise blood sugar level and Urine sugar in Wardha city's population and create awareness in the population of Wardha city regarding non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and its relation with Prakruti. Methodology: NIDDM participants, with proper consent, were interviewed by a well-prepared and structured questionnaire regarding the Prakruti. The data were correlated with respective Prakruti, and the list of dos, don'ts was provided to the participants for their diet and workout concerning their Prakruti. Observation & Results: Patients were categorised according to Prakriti, data related family history, diet, addiction, dietary factors, psychological factors, behavioural factor were collected and analysed. Discussion: Personalized medicine is the need of today's era, so developing the treatment pattern and template to reduce the disease burden of diabetes and awareness is the parallel arm to lessen global problems. Conclusion: The results concluded that pitta predominant and pitta associated Prakriti more observed in NIDDM. The causative factors were also listed according to prakriti and differentiate with associate subcategories which helps to create awareness among the NIDDM population.
