Abstract

This research studies the role of peer attachment and parenting styles in association with school adaptation. Participants in this research were 205 voluntarily selected high school students in Hindijan. It is correlational. The research tools were Cava, Povedano, Buelga  & Musitu (2015) School Adaptation Questionnaires, the Darling and Toyokawa Parental Styles Scale (1997) and the Wilkinson Friends Attachment Scale (2008). We performed data analysis by Pearson correlation and multivariate regression using SPSS software. The results showed that secure attachment style and independence-seeking parental style had a positive relationship with school adaptation and avoidant attachment style, anxious attachment style, responsive and demanding parental style had a significant negative relationship with school adaptation. Regression analysis showed that secure attachment style and independence-seeking parental style are positive and meaningful predictor of school adaptation and avoidance attachment style, anxious attachment style, responsive and demanding parental style are negative and meaningful predictor of school adaptation.
