Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The powder dusting method is the most practically useful approach for latent fingerprint development in the crime scene. Visualization of invisible fingerprints is essential in the identification of individuals. In this study, the powder dusting method using aloe Vera powder has been explored for latent fingerprint development on electronic surfaces.

AIM: The study aimed to find out a new technique for the visualization of latent fingerprints.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: The plant powder was applied for visualization of latent fingerprints on electronic surfaces like iPad, mobiles, laptops, computers, and the fingerprints observed were photographed.

RESULTS: Specific details such as an island, core, termination, and bifurcation in the fingerprints can be observed with aloe Vera powder.

CONCLUSION: Several methods have been reported for the development of latent fingerprints on different surfaces. This paper presents a new powdering method that is simple and using easily available aloe Vera powder, to decipher the latent fingerprint on electronic surfaces. It was found that it gives very clear results on the electronic surface.
